Robin’s Favorite Item in May!
“I have always loved the china in our collection. One of my favorite parts of our job is to set a table-scape at different times of the year to keep our exhibits new and exciting. This also allows us to feature collections that may have not been on view.”
One piece that Robin loves is the Staffordshire tureen with a cover. This piece has a transfer print pattern of dark gray and white castles, mountains, and a lake. It is fourteen inches long and does have a slight crack. There are two makers marks, one in Chinese and one reading “Susa.” with “C. M. & S.” The Chinese markings are faux, as it was manufactured in England. The mark dates from 1852 to 1861 based on the association (Charles Meigh and Sons).
This Staffordshire tureen is on exhibit in the Dining Room with a beautiful Grundy Collection soup ladle.
