Grundy Museum Honored with Prestigious Award from the Victorian Society in America

The Grundy Museum was awarded the Victorian Society in America (VSA) Award for the exemplary restoration and rehabilitation of its historic house museum and surrounding grounds. This recognition highlights the Museum’s dedication to preserving and showcasing the rich Victorian heritage of the Grundy Family and the town of Bristol Borough.

This prestigious honor in the field of historic preservation was bestowed upon the Grundy Museum for its meticulous and authentic restoration efforts, which have revitalized the grand Victorian residence and its picturesque grounds. The award celebrates the Museum’s commitment to maintaining the architectural and cultural integrity of 610 Radcliffe Street, ensuring that the legacy of the Grundy Family and the Victorian era remains vibrant and accessible to the public. The restoration project focused on returning the Museum’s eleven rooms, spanning the first and second floors, to their former splendor.

In addition to the interior restorations, staff used photographs from the Grundy Archives to recreate portions of the gardens from the Family’s Walnut Grove estate so that the South Lawn and Margaret’s Gaden may flourish once more. Finally, the newly created carriage-style house enhances the Museum’s facilities while reflecting its historic architectural style.
